Karl Eckerle was nominated by his friend and fellow club member, Kevin Alfonso. Kevin shared the following sentiment about Karl and his support:
"Karl Eckerle continues to be a foundational member of the Midland R/C Modelers club, and we are proud to recognize his outstanding contributions, dedication, and commitment to the success of our organization through the AMA Copilot Recognition Program.
Karl has been a long-standing member of the Midland R/C Modelers club for 35 years, serving in various Board positions while consistently going above and beyond the responsibilities of those roles. As our club’s Chief Flight Instructor, Karl has played a pivotal role in developing and mentoring our team of flight instructors, helping establish the successful Monday Instruction Night program.
Throughout the summer flying season, this program provides new pilots with a welcoming and supportive environment where they can build their skills and confidence. Under Karl’s leadership, aspiring pilots receive hands-on flight instruction, assistance with technical aircraft issues, repairs, pre-flight and post-flight safety procedures, donating aircraft to new pilots who have crashed, and the encouragement they need to progress toward their solo check flight and ultimately earn their wings. Karl’s commitment to education, safety, and mentorship helps ensure that new members not only learn to fly but also become confident, responsible, and engaged members of our club.
Karl is the living embodiment of the spirit of the Midland R/C Modelers club.
He consistently fosters a strong sense of community, partnership, camaraderie, and mutual support among our members. His commitment to the club’s continued success and longevity extends well beyond the flying field. In addition to his Board service, Karl maintains an important relationship with our flying field landlord and actively supports club activities such as the Memorial Day parade, club-sponsored events, and community outreach initiatives.
His dedication to growing the hobby and giving back to the community is especially evident in his support of our local EAA chapter. Karl generously volunteers his personal time to work with the EAA Young Eagles participants, helping them build their own R/C aircraft and introducing them to the excitement and possibilities of aviation. Through these efforts, he helps inspire the next generation of aviation and R/C enthusiasts.
Perhaps one of Karl’s greatest strengths is his ability to lead by example.
He encourages fellow members to contribute just a little bit more of their time, talent, and energy for the greater good of the club. His willingness to step up, lend a hand, share his knowledge, and support others has a lasting positive impact on our organization and its members.
Karl Eckerle is an exceptional educator of both adults and children, a respected leader, and a passionate advocate for the R/C hobby. His contributions strengthen not only the Midland R/C Modelers club but also the broader aviation community. His commitment to teaching, fellowship, and the future of our hobby makes him an integral part of our club family.
We are grateful for Karl’s many years of service and the example he sets for all of us. We can think of few individuals more deserving of this recognition through the AMA Copilot Recognition Program."
